As the Cottagecore trend continues, we all want to find a way to make our home a safe haven from the busy outside world. Whether you’re looking to move into a new home, or are updating your current one with some new decor, here are some tricks you might need to get that cosy, relaxing vibe just right.

Embrace Hygge: Soft Lighting and Warm Textures

Taking inspiration from the Danish, hygge is the art of creating intimacy and is a part of Denmark’s cultural heritage. It’s all about making people want to visit your home and spend time there, and can be embraced by opting for soft, ambient lighting – such as candles, fairy lights and warm-toned bulbs – and textured throws, fluffy cushions and soft rugs. Anything that makes you feel like cuddling up on the sofa with a loved one is hygge, so embrace the downtime and softness and that will reflect in your decor.

Add Natural Elements for a Calming Effect

Nature is full of calming elements, so why not bring the outside indoors? This can instantly add a touch of comfort – plus, a houseplant can help improve your mood. Outdoor elements such as a wooden coffee table, or wicker baskets, can help enhance your cosy vibe, as well as provide excellent storage. This even gives you an excuse to buy those fresh flowers you always say you’re going to buy!

Create a Relaxation Corner

Having a cosy home means embracing the cosy vibes and creating a relaxation corner – whatever you wish to do in it, be that coffee, movies, or reading – can be a great first step. A reading nook with a comfy armchair and a great spot by the window can immediately make a space feel more welcoming, as well as having a practical use. Dedicating spaces to be free of distractions can keep your house feeling zen.

Keep It Warm and Inviting

A key part of being cosy is feeling warm and snug – making sure your house keeps the heat in, whether that’s by adding heat through a fireplace, or investing in thick curtains and hot water bottles, can mean that when the world outside is feeling rather frozen and uninviting, your home will be the place to settle down.

Surround Yourself with Personal Comforts

While it can be tempting to swap personal preference for what’s in style, this isn’t the key to a cosy home. A cosy home often feels lived in, and that means your home should reflect bits and pieces of you and anyone else who lives there: favourite books, family photos, or even your favourite essential oils can all add to that cosy feel.
