LONDON, United Kingdom — With summer fast approaching, many of us will be giving our wardrobes a much needed refresh. As well as hitting the stores, both online and off, to grab our own share of staples for the new season ahead, adding a burst of colour and fun to ensembles for work and play is a mission many will be looking to pursue in the coming weeks.

Known for her use of texture, colour and print, Sandra Weil is one brand that we will be keeping a beady eye on this season. Her latest collection is the epitome of what the Spring/Summer season is all about regardless of the trends seen at fashion weeks across the globe. Combining sumptuous textures with exciting pops of colour, the handcrafted capsule wardrobe captures the details and fine finishes, with a couture conscious twist, that every modern, stylish, self-confident woman craves with a couture conscious twist.

Peruvian born and bred

After studying fine arts at the University of Lima and majoring in graphic design, Sandra realised that the digital world simply wasn’t for her, much to the delight of fashion lovers like you and me. That’s when she began exploring the world of fashion, but her affair with haute couture began much earlier…

As Sandra explains: “Growing up, I was very close to my mom and grandmother, who had a couture atelier at her house. Having an insight into haute couture so close to home gave me the opportunity to interact with the techniques as well as get to grips with the very delicate, lush fabrics that each piece is made from. That world was very familiar to me, despite making the decision to follow my heart into fashion a little later in life.”

Bridging the gap on the global scene

Designing for women aged between 25 and 45 years old, it was Sandra’s experience as an avid follower of fashion that made her realise there was something missing from the global fashion scene. As Sandra highlights:

“As well as satisfying my desire to experiment and create pieces with the fabrics and materials that I was amazed with, I realised that there weren’t many options for women who were looking for couture pieces with the quality, attention to detail and edge that we are now offering.”

“I started to grow my brand organically, and a few years later we launched Sandra Weil ready to wear! Now we have three lines – ready to wear, couture and bridal.”

Exploring the Andean silhouette

Translating traditional textures and prints for the modern day was just the beginning for Sandra, and after discovering French and Italian textiles, the Peruvian/Latin American theme was complete. Using a palette of neutral colours in contrast with bright accents of coral, yellow and turquoise, the sophisticated, confident and playful signature Sandra Weil style truly comes to life with every piece in her summer collection.

Sandra adds: “This season I am in love with woven fabrics, despite this being the first time working with this kind of textile. Our signature look is definitely high-waisted, the most feminine, sophisticated and flattering look for almost every woman.”

Based in Mexico City, Sandra stays close to her roots, taking influence from the folklore aspects that are common in both cultures. With the launch of her Autumn/Winter 2015 collection on the horizon, our love affair with the Andean culture is certainly not over with wool, leather, silk and the very original woven jacquard set to take us into the next season.
